Getting to Northern
Cyprus

You can do this in two ways, flying to either the northern or southern half of the island.
Flights to the north can only go via Turkey, stopping at one of the major cities before flying on to Cyprus. Pegasus Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Cyprus Turkish Airlines are the carriers. Pegasus Airlines and Cyprus Turkish Airlines have their own online booking websites. You can also book through one of the major tour operators to the north based in London, most of whom advertise in the holiday pages of major newspapers, including Green Island Holidays (020 7637 7338). Flights go from Stansted, Heathrow and Manchester. The cost is generally from £250 to £300 - although Pegasus are more competitive and allow you to book a stopover in Istanbul. The journey takes four hours to Turkey, an hour’s wait there and an hour and a quarter on to Cyprus. The airport at Ercan is brand new and about 40 minutes drive from Kyrenia. Another way of travel is to use Easyjet to Istanbul and then Pegasus to Ercan.
Most of the British charter companies have flights from regional airports to the south of Cyprus, and if you are thinking about this option you need a flight to Larnaca. As with all charters the prices vary according to season, and the flight time is about four hours. From there by road to Kyrenia takes an hour and a half. If you hire a car in the south, you will need to get extra insurance for the north - this is available at the border crossing. Border restrictions do not yet allow you to travel across the ‘green line’ in car hired in the north. You can get a local taxi (about £50).
