This privately
built villa is in the village of Dogankoy just outside Kyrenia (Girne in Turkish)
in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
It was completed in May 2005 and is one of a development of seven villas, all
detached in their own spacious walled gardens and with private pools.
Dogankoy is a pretty village that sits in the foothills of the Besparmak mountains
and is renowned for its clear air. Unlike many villages where development has
taken place, Dogankoy is subject to planning laws that limit further new building,
and the neighbouring olive groves contain some very old protected trees.
The village has its own identity but is close to Kyrenia, and within five minutes
walk of the villa there is a good supermarket. The commercial town centre, and
the old town around the historic harbour, are 20 minutes walk away.
The villas are set in olive groves and the garden itself has five mature olive
trees- one believed to be a thousand years old. For ease of maintenance the
garden is gravelled, and is planted with shrubs, orange and lemon trees and
bouganvillea bushes.
